Dow 黑洞社区 Solutions is making its Styrofoam insulation products available for the first time in the UK, supporting the ratings for new housing under the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The insulation materials use recycled carbon dioxide 鈥 as well as CO2 naturally occurring in the air 鈥 as a blowing agent to create the extruded polystyrene foam materials, which are used to insulate floors, walls and roofs in commercial and residential buildings.

Styrofoam-A foam meets the Code for Sustainable Homes鈥 global warming potential requirement of less than five. It is also lightweight, strong and has good moisture-resistant properties, claims the company. It is also 100% recyclable.

The process of extruding polystyrene foam generates a mass of small, homogeneous closed cells which is what gives it its high design loads, low water absorption and insulating properties. The insulation can be cust with standard tools, making it easy to shape and reducing waste on site.
