How the revamped building will look

Called Elms House, the Hammersmith scheme will include a pavilion on top of the main building while an adjacent loading bay will be extended by three storeys and topped with green roof terraces.

The scheme is being developed by General Projects for building owner Neo Capital. The pair said refurbishing the structure will save 9,500 tonnes of carbon emissions.

It will include more than 200 long-stay cycle spaces with lockers, showers, bike repair and a drying room.

Others working on the scheme include project manager Third London Wall, cost consultant Circle and structural engineer Whitby Wood. Work is due to start next autumn.
