Haringey Council has appointed the director of Vauxhall Nine Elms, Helen Fisher, to lead the regeneration of Tottenham.

Fisher joins the council as Tottenham programme director to spearhead the authority鈥檚 development plans for the area - including the delivery of 10,000 new homes, 5,000 new jobs and more than 1million ft虏 of employment space by 2025. The regneration comes on the back of Tottenham Hotspur plans to forge ahead with their 61,000-seat stadium (pictured) in the heart of the borough.

Fisher鈥檚 25-year career includes a four-year stint as director of the Nine Elms Vauxhall opportunity area, overseeing a redevelopment that includes Battersea Power Station, the US Embassy, two new Tube stations and thousands of new homes and jobs.

Her other roles include leading the regeneration of Newham鈥檚 Canning Town, working innovatively alongside residents to ensure local people got the best from estate renewal schemes, such as introducing employment charters for developers to ensure local jobs - an approach which was replicated at Nine Elms.

Speaking about the appointment Fisher said: 鈥淚鈥檓 delighted to be joining London鈥檚 most ambitious and exciting regeneration programme, which will bring thousands of new homes and jobs to one of our city鈥檚 most vibrant communities.

鈥淭ottenham has an inspiring future, and I can鈥檛 wait to get to work meeting the local people who will benefit most from the new opportunities regeneration will unlock.鈥
