Contractor the latest to use government job-saving initiative
Multiplex is the latest contractor to confirm that it has furloughed staff because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The firm, which is behind a string of towers in London, including 22 Bishopsgate and the One Nine Elms scheme, said it has furloughed 200 staff, just over 20% of its employees, for the next month.
The firm, which employs 960 people, said its remaining staff have agreed a 20% salary cut across the board.
It added that three had agreed voluntary redundancy.
In the past 24 hours, Sir Robert McAlpine, Wates, Morgan Sindall and Mace have all announced plans to furlough thousands of staff.
McAlpine is due to say how many have been furloughed next week while 1,000 Wates staff will be furloughed from Monday.
Others to furlough staff include Laing O’Rourke, Kier, Galliford Try and Costain.
The government’s furlough initiative, announced two weeks ago by chancellor Rishi Sunak, allows impacted employees to receive up to 80% of their salaries up to a cap of £2,500 per month.
