Alan Milburn called to appear in high court to give evidence.
Former health secretary Alan Milburn may be called to appear in the high court to give evidence in the dispute between Wembley main contractor Multiplex and subcontractor Cleveland Bridge.
In its response to a submission to the technology and construction court by Cleveland Bridge, Multiplex have called for the MP for Darlington to testify, so that he can face questions about whether Cleveland Bridge sought the support of local MPs in the contract dispute.
According to The Guardian, Multiplex claims that Roddy Grant, Cleveland Bridge's former chief executive, was "tasked with handling the media, government, local MPs and staff for the actions contemplated" in a PR campaign as the Darlington-based company tried to break its contracts with Multiplex.
The Australian contractor also wants to examine contact between Milburn and Cleveland Bridge in July 2004, at a time when his website listed one of his stated tasks as to "[urge] the Football Association to investigate delays on Wembley Stadium contract dispute". Milburn declined to comment.
Cleveland Bridge denies the allegations, and is seeking 拢13m from Multiplex in the litigation.
