Job will be part of Urban & Civic’s 5,000-home Alconbury Weald development
Morgan Sindall is preferred bidder for a £36m deal to build an education campus in Cambridgeshire.
The job for developer Urban & Civic will see it build a 600-place secondary school, a 300-place sixth form and a 130-place special needs free school as part of the Alconbury Education Hub.
Lead architect on the scheme is Atkins, which is also on the project team as civil and structural consultant alongside M&E consultant Couch Perry Wilkes, planning consultant Willmore and facade design consultant Perpendicular Architecture.
It will be part of Urban & Civic’s wider 5,000-home Alconbury Weald development at RAF Alconbury, a former Cold War airfield near Huntingdon which had been used by the US Air Force from 1942 before it closed in 2015.
The education campus will be located at the centre of the wider scheme at one end of the former airfield’s runway, which will be converted into a park.
Morgan Sindall has already completed the first school to open at Alconbury Weald, the £8.9m Ermine Street Church Academy which opened in 2016.
Housebuilders involved in the development include Redrow, Crest Nicholson, Civic Living, Hopkins Homes and Morris.
