Regeneration agency helps finance decontamination of factory site for East Midlands regeneration scheme

The East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) has signed a regeneration deal with Laing O'Rourke, contributing 拢4.65m to the firm's remediation scheme at Steetly, on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border.

The funds are being invested to support a regeneration scheme that has seen an extensive remediation programme over the past 18 months on the highly contaminated site of the former Baker Refractory Works at Steetly. It is to be redeveloped by Laing O'Rourke as a new manufacturing facility bringing around 270 local jobs.

Jeff Moore, chief executive of EMDA, said: 鈥淭his is a fantastic scheme that will bring the derelict Steetley Colliery site back into use.
