John Spanswick, chairman of Bovis Lend Lease, has been awarded a CBE for his dedication to construction and his focus on site health and safety.
Spanswick, who has been working in the construction industry for more than 40 years, was cited in the Queen's birthday honours list along with several other construction figures.
A spokesperson for Bovis said: "John has always been a passionate campaigner for better standards of site safety."
On his CBE, Spanswick said: "I feel very honoured and a bit humbled. I've got a great team here at Bovis who have put in a huge amount of work too, which is reflected in this award."
John Callcutt, chief executive of English Partnerships, was also awarded a CBE for his dedication to regeneration.
The former Crest Nicholson chief executive is best known for his passion for sustainability.
Other construction figures honoured were Ian Thomas, Amec's business development director, who received an OBE for services to British business in South-East Asia, and Richard Hucker, Costain's Iraq manager who was awarded an MBE for his services to British business in Iraq.
Spanswick also received the Outstanding Safety Achievement award at ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø's Health and Safety awards on Thursday night, in recognition of his passionate campaigning to improve safety standards in the industry.
The event, which was attended by 800 people at London's Hilton Hotel and held in association with the Health and Safety Executive, also counted Skanska among its 16 winners after it won Best Major Contractor's Safety Initiative.
