The government should set up a Code for Sustainable Homes Refurbishment to achieve the reduction in carbon emissions of existing stock required to help meet the government鈥檚 2050 carbon reduction commitment, an industry lobby group said this week

The Housing Forum said the 50-60% reduction in emissions was could be achieved by adopting tried and tested measures to improve efficiency.

It said the code would act as the 鈥渃orrect approach to measurement and target-setting for the considerable improvement that is needed鈥.

Ian Burnett, chair of the Housing Forum鈥檚 working group, said the decision was crucial to the UK鈥檚 climate efforts: 鈥淲e need to act now to ensure homes are energy efficient for the householder, and to ensure a significant reduction in emissions.鈥
