Zaha Hadid Architects has beaten a shortlist of leading practices to win an international competition for a high-rise headquarters complex in China.

The practice beat Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners, SOM, Henning Larsen and Bjarke Ingels鈥 BIG group.

The architect will design a quartet of linked, fully glazed towers in the southern city of Shenzhen.

Rising to 42 storeys, or 200m, the development will be a new headquarters for Oppo, one of China鈥檚 leading mobile phone manufacturers.

Two of the towers contain the circulation and services for the other two, freeing the floorplates of the main buildings from the constraints of traditional cores and creating uninterrupted through-views.

The towers, linked by a 20-storey-high lobby and orientated to maximise views over Shenzhen Bay, taper inwards at lower levels. This creates what are described as large civic spaces at street level, with a landscaped plaza and public route, an art gallery, shops, restaurants and a link to a subway station.

A 10th-floor 鈥渟ky plaza鈥 will contain dining, leisure and entertainment facilities, while the public will also have access to a rooftop 鈥渟ky lab鈥 with spectacular views.

The project is set to break ground this year and is due to complete in 2025.
