Department of Health will spend 拢80m on more than 2,000 homes across the country

A list of 25 sites for more than 2,000 government-funded 鈥渆xtra care鈥 homes for the elderly was released by the Department of Health this morning.

The DoH will spend 拢80m on the 2,035 homes between 2008 and 2010, bringing the total it has spent on extra care homes to 拢227m since 2004. Previous funding has already provided 4,200 homes.

Extra care homes are ones where older people can continue to live independently, but within block which are designed to include some communal spaces and facilities and staff for providing necessary care.

The money includes four schemes in the North-east, six in the North-west, one in Yorkshire and Humberside, two in the West Midlands, three in the East Midlands, one in London, one in the East of England and four in the South-east.
