Foster & Partners has submitted plans for a new Maggie鈥檚 cancer support centre in Manchester.
The 拢6m scheme is in the grounds of cancer treatment centre The Christie.
Norman Foster said scheme focuses on maximising natural light and has 鈥渁 particular personal significance, as I was born in the city and have first-hand experience of the distress of a cancer diagnosis鈥�.
鈥淚 believe in the power of architecture to lift the spirits and help in the process of therapy,鈥� he added.
The surrounding gardens have been designed by celebrity gardener Dan Pearson.
鈥淲ithin the centre, there is a variety of spaces - visitors can gather around a big kitchen table, find a peaceful place to think or they can work with their hands in the greenhouse,鈥� Foster added.
Other architects to have designed a Maggie鈥檚 Centre include Richard Rogers, Zaha Hadid and Rem Koolhaas.
The project is scheduled to open in 2016.
