100 ha scheme will pioneer sustainable waste system
The first images of the regeneration of Brent Cross and Cricklewood have been released at MIPIM in the run-up to the project鈥檚 planning application.
The 拢4bn regeneration, to be delivered by Multiplex, Hammerson and Standard Life, will cover 100ha in North-West London.
Over the next 20 years a new town centre will be developed, creating 7,500 homes, a shopping centre, commercial district, a redesigned high street and green spaces.
The development will also see revamped community facilities such as new buildings for three schools, two health facilities and a leisure centre.
Improvements to the transport infrastructure will include a new train station on the Midland Mainline route, a new bus station and significant improvements to road junctions, pedestrian links and cycle routes.
The development will pioneer an environmentally sustainable waste system. Waste will be collected through a network of underground pipes, linking directly to a handling and recycling facility, which will produce fuel to be used in an onsite power plant.
The three partners will submit a planning application to Barnet Council in the summer, and if consent is granted work is expected to begin in 2009.
