Recipients include FCBS partner and founder of construction diversity group
Construction and housing leaders including the chief of the Battersea Power Station development and the chair of Springfield have been recognised in the New Year鈥檚 Honours List.
Simon Murphy, who served as chief executive of the Battersea Power Station Development Company until March 2024, was awarded an OBE for services to real estate, heritage, and the community in London.
Reflecting on his tenure at the time of stepping down, he said: 鈥淚t has been a huge honour to have played a part in delivering such a special addition to the London landscape.
鈥淲hile there have been many challenges along the way these have been more than eclipsed by the many remarkable highlights such as bringing the iconic Grade II* listed building back to life after a thorough restoration and collaborating with Transport for London to deliver the first extension to the London Underground in 25 years.鈥
Murphy worked on the Battersea Power Station development for 11 years, six of which were as CEO, overseeing the completion of the first three key phases of the project.
Amos Simbo, founder of Black Professionals in Construction, has been awarded an OBE for services to the construction industry and to diversity. Simbo is managing director and founder of Winway Group, an independent M&E consultancy.
In response, he said: 鈥淚鈥檓 truly humbled to have been honoured with an OBE in the King鈥檚 New Year鈥檚 Honours 鈥 representing construction. It鈥檚 the honour of my life being in construction, promoting inclusion for individuals and small businesses 鈥 showcasing how the industry is truly at the heart of community building.鈥
Sharon Philomena Smyth, chief executive of construction procurement delivery for the Northern Ireland Civil Service was given an CBE for services to procurement.
The chair of Springfield Properties, Alexander William Adam, was given an OBE for services to the construction industry in Scotland.
In planning, Dr Wei Yang and Paul David Hudson were both given OBEs. Yang is chief executive of the Digital Task Force for Planning and a member of the government鈥檚 new towns taskforce, while Hudson was a planning advisor to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
In architecture, Peter Clegg, senior partner and co-founder of Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, was awarded an OBE for services to architecture.
Clegg founded Feilden Clegg Design with Richard Fielden in 1978. Clegg鈥檚 work at the practice has included headquarters for environmental organisations such as Greenpeace, the National Trust, and the Woodland Trust.
MBE recipients included Janet Sharpe, who recently retired as director of housing at Sheffield City Council, Arman Sharman, chief executive of Totus Digital, for services to building and fire safety, and Sally Anne Strachey, for services to the repair and conservation of heritage buildings.
