But more than 8,500 jobs have been saved, says official receiver

The official receiver for collapsed contractor Carillion has confirmed another 78 employees have lost their jobs.

The spokesperson said: 鈥淩egrettably we have been unable to find ongoing employment for a further 78 employees who will leave the business later this week.

鈥淪ecure ongoing employment with new suppliers has been found for a further 305 employees who work on facilities management, defence and construction contracts

鈥淒iscussions with potential purchasers for Carillion鈥檚 remaining contracts are continuing.鈥

To date there have been 1,536 redundancies as part of the liquidation.

So far 8,521 jobs have been saved, meaning 46% of the pre-liquidation workforce have now found secure ongoing employment.

The spokesperson also confirmed around 7,300 employees were still in limbo, as they are currently retained to enable Carillion to deliver the remaining services it is providing for public and private sector customers.

Their future remains unclear until decisions are taken to either transfer or cease the contracts they are working on.

Carillion employed more than 40,000 staff globally around half of whom worked in the UK. Its head office in Wolverhampton had around 400 staff.
