MacCormac Jamieson Prichard’s offers lecturers a modern alternative to traditional college accommodation
Dons at Cambridge University are set to move out of the dusty corridors of college and into a brand new apartment complex after completion of a £22 million development of flats designed exclusively for staff and visiting academics within walking distance of the university.
The project, designed by architect MacCormac Jamieson Prichard – also responsible for the University’s West Cambridge masterplan – includes an 88-place nursery for the staff’s children. The South block, situated next to a laboratory complex, is clad in pre-patinated, titanium zinc tiles, while the North block, which overlooks the veterinary school paddocks, features softer, cedar boarding.
Main contractor Amec worked with Price & Myers, Faber Maunsell and Gardiner & Theobald on the scheme.
Away from the University, MPM Properties and Luminus Group have appointed the Millbridge Group project managers on a £5.77 million residential scheme in Cambridge. The Coleridge Road development, which will include 72 flat and 17 town houses, is due for completion in January 2006, and will include key worker accommodation as well as private residences. The 4200 square metre scheme is the first that Millbridge has managed for MPM Properties and Luminus Group.
