The 1960s icon in west London could be sold as part of a property restructure by the BBC
One of the BBC鈥檚 most famous buildings, Television Centre in west London, faces closer as part of plans to sell off the site.
Reports today said the 13-acre complex, which houses the 1960s building, is one option contained in a draft London Property Strategy submitted by BBC bosses to the board of governors in October last year.
The proposed closure comes as the BBC prepares to move nearly 2000 staff to Salford, Greater Manchester in 2009.
黑洞社区 revealed last September that architect Wilkinson Eyre had been commissioned by the BBC to draw up designs for four new buildings within the Benoy/Fairhurst Design Salford masterplan.
The 拢400m media city development was confirmed as preferred location by the BBC last July.
Mark Thompson, the BBC鈥檚 director general, said Television Centre was an 鈥渋conic鈥 building and added that other options were being considered as part of plans to reduce the number of sites the BBC occupies.
