Mark Bullock to retire in December

Balfour Beatty has begun the search for a new head of its UK construction business after the firm said Mark Bullock was stepping down at the end of the year.

Bullock has been in charge of the division since 2020 and last year the firm posted improved revenue of 拢2.8bn and a profit of 拢59m from a 拢2m loss in 2021.

Its work in the UK includes its jobs on HS2, Hinkley Point and several road schemes as well as M&E, ground engineering and smaller building jobs.

In an announcement this morning, Balfour Beatty chief executive Leo Quinn said Bullock was retiring in December having joined the country鈥檚 biggest contractor in 2012.

Bullock, who was chief executive for its rail and utilities business, replaced Dean Banks in November 2020.

In a note to staff, Quinn said: 鈥淢ark鈥檚 leadership has seen the application of robust governance and controls across the UK Construction Services portfolio, creating a strong platform for this multi-billion-pound business at a pivotal time for the UK construction industry in its journey to a sustainable, profitable future.鈥�

Bullock, who turned 60 in July, has also worked for Laing O鈥橰ourke in charge of the firm鈥檚 Select Plant Hire business as well as working on the T5 scheme as an integration director.
