Homeowbers staged an overnight sit-in at a show home on a Merseyside estate this week after housebuilder Beechdale Homes went into receivership.

Homeowners on the part-finished Eldon Wharf development want defects rectified. Receiver Grant Thornton is considering the request.

Beechdale began building the 130-home estate 18 months ago and many of the houses have been sold. Homeowners claim that they have leaky roofs, faulty cookers and boilers, and that windows are not fitted correctly.

Sean Croston, spokesman for Grant Thornton, said: 鈥淲e are reviewing the options and are to meet residents with a view to completing the site as soon as possible.鈥

It is unclear whether individual complaints will be addressed.

Louise Ellman, MP for Liverpool Riverside, said that if repairs were not undertaken, she would take up the issue with the Department of Trade and Industry. Homeowners say they will continue with their sit-ins until assurances are given over the defects. Beechdale Homes was unavailable for comment.

The homes are backed by insurance firm Zurich Municipal. A representative said: 鈥淲e received one claim from Eldon Wharf in September. Now that has been investigated. If we get further claims, we will deal with them.鈥
