Abu Dhabi is set to release its own code for sustainable buildings in the next few months.
Gordon Hudson, director of Mott MacDonald, told delegates at the Think 08 conference that the code would compete with BREEAM, LEED and the Australian Green Star in the marketplace for green standards.
Hudson said that reaching the new code 鈥 which has yet to be named 鈥 will be reliant on economical water usage and allow provision for water collection through condensation.
The panel members for the 鈥渙ne-size-fits-all session鈥, chaired by Peter Rogers, included HOK chairman Bill Valentine, BREEAM director Martin Townsend and Paul Edwards, sustainability director of Hammerson. They agreed that a single international building code was not beneficial.
