Work on phase one of the renewal work on the Aylesbury Estate in London will start in mid-2005.
The government has given a grant of 拢7.013m for the first phase of the redevelopment of the Aylesbury Estate in Southwark.
The grant from the Government Office of London is the final tranche of the 拢31.328m required to for the South West corner of the estate. Earlier this year the Aylesbury New Deal for Communities partnership secured 拢11.328 funding from the London Housing Board. Southwark is contributing a further 拢13m.
Three will be three phases of physical renewal work on the estate, which will lead to the introduction of security measures across the estate.
Chair of Aylesbury New Deal for Communities Tony Taitte said: 鈥淭he approval from GoL puts the final piece of the funding jigsaw in place, and represents the start of a massive transformation for the Aylesbury.鈥
Work on site is due to commence in mid-2005.
