Planning approvals
As the system gradually slowed down towards summer, planning approvals in June were down on May's figures (see Homes, June issue) and most regions saw the numbers reduced further in July.
August approvals continued to dwindle, particularly for housing associations. But September saw a strong boost in numbers, with the South-east and the West Midlands leading the way.
New-build completions
Planning consents may have fallen, but June's NHBC-registered private new-build completions were well up on May, with the South-east enjoying a bumper month, although July's figures were back down. After a bad spell, housing association completions peaked in June.
The hot days of summer meant that figures were down across the geographical board in August, with low figures for private housebuilders and housing association completions starting to turn around in September.
