3:00PM CLM group beats Bechtel to 2012 delivery partner contract

The CLM consortium, which includes Davis Langdon, has won the Olympic delivery partner contract. The CLM group also comprises CH2M Hill International, Laing O'Rourke and Mace. The delivery partner is to work closely with the Olympic Delivery Authority on the programme management of all construction needed for the games. It will also oversee issues such as legacy sustainability.

The news will surprise industry pundits who predicted the role would go to Bechtel, which was on the shortlist of four for the role. The US giant works extensively for the government.

The other two groups shortlisted were:

  • G3, comprising Faithful+Gould, Gleeds, Sir Steve Redgrave, Amec, Balfour Beatty and Jacobs Babtie
  • Legacy, comprising Franklin + Andrews, Capita Symonds, Bovis Lend Lease and Kellogg Brown & Root
Ian Metcalfe, director at F&G, said: "It’s disappointing but not the end of the world. There will be tonnes of work coming out of the Olympics - both directly and in directly."

He added that he was unsure whether the G3 consortium would break up.
