Reverse-charge VAT is an awful idea – subcontractors depend on the taxation time-line delay to ease their cash flow

I was recently asked – along with 120 other professionals from the field of construction, all gathered in one room: “Hands up those who have heard of reverse-charge VAT for construction?” Barely 10 hands went up. These people were for the most part the QSs, managers and admin folk working in your everyday building and contracting world. And this was their state of knowledge on this new taxation malarkey just two months before it kicks in.
