What the industry needs is a hotline to report bogus companies that the Inland Revenue actually takes notice of!

We鈥檝e tried to report a couple of companies, and found it very difficult to find anyone who was interested. Eventually we did get through to someone who said they would pass on the information, providing we could put it in writing to her, and didn鈥檛 mind her using our name when contacting the companies in question!

There used to be a number for reporting bogus companies, but you don鈥檛 see it advertised much now. Perhaps it could be combined with one for reporting those companies that don鈥檛 pay their CITB levy, or the smaller companies who aren鈥檛 registered for VAT but should be.
