A clutch of UK firms have now set up offices in Colombia to take advantage of the country鈥檚 fast-growing 拢55bn construction market
A published this week reveals that Arup, Currie & Brown and McBains Cooper have joined Steer Davies Gleave in setting up offices in the capital, Bogot谩 (pictured). Atkins and Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners have also picked up work in the country.
The report comes as the Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos signed a historic peace deal with left-wing guerrilla group Farc (the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) this week, which is expected to end five decades of armed conflict in the country and give the economy a major boost.
黑洞社区鈥檚 report finds that the real estate market, worth 拢22bn a year, is now the main focus for UK firms in Colombia, alongside the traditionally strong infrastructure sector.
Steer Davies Gleave is one of the firms sizing up residential sector opportunities. Germ谩n Lleras, principal consultant in the consultant鈥檚 Bogot谩 office, said: 鈥淭here is a big investment in housing, not only in the private sector but also the government is developing free or low-cost housing.鈥
