1. Consider sustainable options. Glass mineral wool is an eco-friendly product as it is manufactured using a high content of recycled glass bottles and can be recycled at the end of a building’s life.
2. Consider cost and long-term savings. For cavity walls, full fill insulation solutions can achieve low U-values at low cost. External wall insulation on a typical house could save £300 a year on energy bills and will typically pay for itself in around six years.
3. Fire safety must be considered. Insulation should ideally be Euroclass A1, the highest possible fire performance rating.
4. Limit moisture penetration through cavity walls. Glass mineral wool slabs ‘knit’ together at the joints to maximise moisture resistance and allow the wall to breathe.
5. Seek out a reputable manufacturer with a range of products who can give technical information, support and advice.
