Ramboll has set up a new acoustics group in the UK.

The new group is being headed up by leading acoustician Raf Orlowski. The group will operate throughout the UK and by linking up with Ramboll acoustic groups in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, will form a 50 strong team operating internationally.

Raf Orlowski joins Ramboll as director after 19 years at Arup. He specialises in the acoustic design of educational, performing arts and public buildings and is a keen promoter of acoustic modeling and auralisation.

Orlowski is an adviser to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) on acoustics in educational buildings and is a visiting professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Sheffield.

Simon Smith, design director, said: "In establishing an acoustics team in the UK we are building on a Group strength, and combined with Raf's leading reputation in the area demonstrates our aim to recruit the best talent and maintain excellence across the company."
