Consultant appointed to manage development, procurement and construction of 拢200m scheme
Consultant White Young Green has won a contract to manage the construction of an 拢200m 800-cell jail in Northern Ireland.
The firm鈥檚 management services division has been appointed to the design and build scheme, which will be built at the existing Magilligan prison site in County Londonderry.
The contract worth about 拢500,000, was awarded by the Northern Ireland Prison Service and involves overseeing development of the brief and business case for the new prison plus the selection of the procurement route, tender documentation and award of the construction contract.
Clive Anderson, managing director of WYG management services, said the firm would 鈥渂ring benefits to the taxpayer鈥� by working to reduce the timescale and cost for the building.
Robin Masefield, director of the Northern Ireland Prison Service, said: 鈥淭his is another significant step in the re-development of Magilligan Prison, which is in need of replacement. It is essential that the design of the new prison is future-proofed and that it provides cost effective operational flexibility.鈥�
The contract is for a three-year period, with an option to be extended for a further three years.
