Preston barracks

Brighton & Hove council has given the go-ahead for a 拢300m transformation of the derelict Preston Barracks and University of Brighton鈥檚 Moulsecoomb campus.

Designed by Hassell, Studio Egret West, TP Bennett and Stride Treglown the plans include the construction of 369 new homes, and 1,338 student bedrooms in new halls of residence, as well as a new home for the university鈥檚 Business School.

The scheme being delivered by regeneration speclialist U+I and Brighton university will also feature a 50,000ft2 hub for start-up businesses and entrepreneurs.

Richard Upton, deputy chief executive of U+I, said the project was one of the 鈥渓argest and most ambitious鈥 to be brought forward in Brighton for a number of years.

Professor Debra Humphris, vice chancellor of the University of Brighton, said: 鈥淭he scheme has the potential to have a huge positive impact both for the local community and wider city.鈥
