National Construction College launches two course in crane operating courses amid calls to improve safety after Battersea accident
The National Construction College has launched two crane training courses amid growing concern over competency in the sector following the Battersea collapse.
The courses - a pedestrian operated tower crane course and a crane supervisor course - will be recognised by the Construction Plant Competence Scheme, the largest qualification scheme for the plant industry. The move coincides with mounting calls for a review of crane safety following the recent accident at a Barratt site in Battersea, in which a crane driver and a member of the public were killed.
National Construction College plant manager Andy Newell said: 鈥淭he courses are CPCS recognised. This helps to ensure that people working in the industry are provided with the right skills and qualifications to work safely and successfully within the plant sector, receiving or adding to existing qualifications with the aim of providing the industry with a fully qualified workforce.鈥
