BIG and Henning Larsen Architects among beaten practices
A small Danish firm has pipped architectural heavyweights BIG and Henning Larsen Architects to build a sustainable village in Copenhagen.
Lendager Group will design the UN17 Village 鈥 a 400-home development which aims to put all 17 United Nation sustainable development goals into action.
The scheme will feature recycled materials such as concrete and wood, as well roof gardens with solar panels.
Anders Lendager, chief executive of the eponymous firm, said the village would not only have low levels of carbon emission, but would also encourage a sustainable lifestyle among residents.
BIG co-designed Google鈥檚 California HQ with Heatherwick Studio with the pair also working on the tech giant鈥檚 new headquarters scheme at King鈥檚 Cross.
Henning Larsen created Copenhagen Opera House, as well as the Harpa concert hall in Iceland鈥檚 capital Reykjav铆k.
