Swedish contractor Skanska is in talks about using its new prefabricated house as a key element of London鈥檚 Olympic village.

The contractor, which recently publicly declared that it is set to enter the UK housing market, has been in discussions with architect AHMM over how to integrate the low-carbon ModernaHus into the village.

AHMM was appointed as masterplanner with over-arching responsibility for design of the east London site by developer, the Lend Lease consortium, in June.

The architect has also been working with Skanska for the past two years on adapting the ModernaHus for the UK market.

David Fison, chief executive of Skanska, said: 鈥淲e are developing ModernaHus 鈥� energy-efficient apartment blocks 鈥� and looking at whether that is applicable to the Olympics.鈥�

In July, BRE certified that Skanska鈥檚 ModernaHus was suitable as a prefabricated building system for use in construction in the UK.

The house itself is made up of several different components, which Skanska claims 鈥渇it together like lego鈥�.
