Contracts with Peabody Trust put firm at top of civils and non-civils leagues but Kier heads yearly work won
The top contractor for April was Hill, with four projects totalling more than £275m. The housing developer and contractor secured contracts with the Peabody Housing Trust, with work at the latter’s estates on Wyke Road, and Lea Bridge Road, in London’s East End, worth £133m each.
In what was a relatively quiet month for contracting activity generally, Kier held the number two slot on both league tables with contracts worth more than £192.5m, with all but one of its projects involved in housing, public or commercial works.
Balfour Beatty took third place in the overall contractors’ rankings, with 18 projects valued at £116.1m, while fourth spot went to Morgan Sindall, whose 28 contracts, valued at £92.2m, included work on student accommodation for VITA Student in Southampton and housing maintenance for East End Homes in London’s Tower Hamlets.
Wates placed fifth in the overall ranking with nine deals, worth £88.6m, including work in the Midlands for the likes of the University of Wolverhampton, Foundation Real Estates in Birmingham, and Regal (West Point), also in Birmingham. The firm also came in fourth position in the excluding civils table, with Willmott Dixon snapping at its heels, with 28 projects worth £88m. Willmott Dixon similarly ran Wates close on the excluding civils list, coming in fifth.
Kier heads the overall cumulative chart for the past 12 months, with 548 contracts worth £2.075bn, narrowly beating Balfour Beatty, whose 348 projects were worth £2.071bn, into second place.
Multiplex Construction currently ranks third on the cumulative table, with Wilmott Dixon in fourth place.
