Appointment of technology firm moves forward plans to establish condition of 23,000 education buildings

The government鈥檚 school delivery body has appointed technology firm Tribal to support a national survey of the condition of England鈥檚 school estate; a move which will determine future priorities for maintenance funding.

Tribal, an education technology and services specialist, has been appointed by Partnerships for Schools (PfS) to provide asset management software to support delivery of the survey, which aims to establish the condition of around 23,000 schools and other education buildings across England.

Up to nine companies are expected to be appointed in February to carry out the survey, which is expected to be worth between 拢10m and 拢30m in fees. A tender for the work was issued by Partnerships for Schools in October last year.

The move to carry out the survey follows the government鈥檚 acceptance of a recommendation in Sebastian James鈥� review of future schools procurement to establish the condition of the current schools estate and use this data to prioritise maintenance funding for schools.

The work to carry out the survey will be split into nine regional lots, with PfS hoping to award only a maximum of three lots to any one bidder.
