The first venue built for the London 2012 Olympic Games will be a zero-carbon visitor centre.

This temporary “showcase for sustainability” on the Stratford City site will inform the public about the progress of the construction programme and could open as early as next year.

It is understood the Olympic Delivery Authority has consulted architects Sheppard Robson and White Design about making the building as eco-friendly as possible. Studio Egret West Architects has been preparing a feasibility study.

The London 2012 team launched its sustainability plan for the Games this week. This included green targets for demolition and construction.
