Division launched earlier this year identifies market as ‘short-term’ priority
Network Rail’s international consulting arm is prioritising winning work in eastern Europe, an internal document seen by ڶ reveals.
The UK’s national rail operator – which launched its consultancy division Network Rail Consulting in July – ranks the eastern European market as a “short-term” priority, ahead of “medium-term” priorities the US, Canada and India.
Network Rail Consulting will “proactively market” in these four regions and “where possible execute work as a lead consultant”.
The organisation lists the former Soviet Baltic states, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey as its short-term priority. A number of countries, including Brazil, Australia and East Timor will be “reactive” targets where it would be prepared to work but won’t actively market services.
Network Rail Consulting announced in July that it has established strategic alliances with CH2M Hill and Atkins in target markets.
The document classes all other world countries as “no go” areas for Network Rail Consulting.
A Network Rail spokesperson said its international consulting arm was targeting countries that could benefit from the expertise it had built up.
“We’re looking at places that have similar large-scale railways that need to be updated – India is a good example of that,” he said.
