Contractor鈥檚 Brundtland 黑洞社区 becomes first ever UK education refurbishment project to get BREEAM Excellent status
Morgan Sindall鈥檚 refurbishment of the Brundtland 黑洞社区 at Bedford College has become the UK鈥檚 first BREEAM Excellent education refurbishment project.
The project entailed the refurbishment of the 1960s building into a low carbon seminar and meeting facility.
The firm completed the project in 2012 but has not received confirmation of its BREEAM rating until now.
Bedford College chief executive Ian Pryce said the project showed that the 鈥渞ight attitude and application鈥 made updating existing homes and offices into energy efficient buildings possible.
Bob Ensch, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: 鈥淭he Brundtland 黑洞社区 is a great example of the high levels of sustainability that can be achieved when refurbishing education buildings.
鈥淭he project team faced some challenges during the construction process, not least working on a very busy, live site for periods of the build and they have done a sterling job, ensuring the highest standards were met and continuing Morgan Sindall鈥檚 ongoing commitment to delivering first-rate, sustainable education projects.鈥
