Firms appointed on 拢1.3m Cambridgeshire pilot scheme featuring 17.5m wind turbine

McBains Cooper and EC Harris have won a contract with Cambridgeshire Constabulary to work on a green police station in the new town of Cambourne.

EC Harris will be QS and project manager and McBains Cooper will be architect on the 拢1.3m pilot scheme.

It will feature a variety of renewable energy sources including solar panels, ground source heating, grey water recycling, a partial green roof and a 17.5m-tall wind turbine. These will provide up to 20% of the station's electricity.

Zaki Ghiacy, director of architecture at the firm, said: 鈥淭his pilot project is expected to be a blueprint for other new developments in local community areas such as Northstowe and the fringe developments around Cambridge.鈥

The two-storey, 500m虏 building boasts a contemporary design which currently specifies the use of slate, patinated copper and the construction of a glazed "link"鈥, similar to an atrium.

A planning application has just been submitted for the scheme.
