Company to deliver design and enabling works on new railway bridge and fifth platform
Kier has been appointed by Network Rail to deliver design and enabling works for a 拢65m improvement project at Oxford railway station.
The company has secured a contract for phase 2C and 2D of the Oxford Corridor Phase 2 Project, which aims to increase capacity and accommodate additional services at the station.
The contract was secured through Governance for Railway Investment Projects, ahead of the final funding decision by the Department for Transport which is expected in the coming months.
Phase 2C includes the replacement of an existing railway bridge spanning Botley Road with a wider structure.
Double-decker buses will be able to comfortably pass beneath the bridge for the first time as a result.
Phase 2D includes the construction of a fifth platform, a new western entrance and a subway connecting the two.
It will also see a new ticket office, waiting room, toilets, caf茅 and shops built, as well as the demolition of buildings around the station.
