Five-storey scheme in Fitzrovia

A mixed-use scheme by developer HGG in London鈥檚 Fitzrovia has been clad in misshapen Staffordshire blue clay bricks.

The five-storey development, called the Interlock building on Riding House Street, has been designed by architect Bureau de Change and includes three new apartments, a street-level caf茅 and a gallery beneath.

The architect said the brick had been selected as a contrast to the area鈥檚 existing brickwork and the marl clay set in moulds and fired in oxidation to create the matt blue finish by brick maker Forterra. Putting the bricks into place took fa莽ade contractor Irvine Whitlock three months to complete.

Others to work on the scheme included main contractor Phillip Banks.
