Firms have until end of next month to register intererst

HS2 has begun the search for a specialist contractor to provide the monitoring systems that will enable remote control of railway assets and systems on the 拢100bn railway.

The 拢65m contract is to build an integrated supervisory control and data acquisition system that will be used across the whole network 鈥 and up to 25 years of technical support. The system is designed to weed out problems before they occur.

The work involved in the contract will enable the status of HS2鈥檚 railway assets and systems to be monitored in real time from the Network Integrated Control Centre in Birmingham and other key locations.

The Washwood Heath complex will be built at this former railway works which has now been cleared by a Laing O鈥橰ourke/Murphy joint venture

Four firms are set to be shortlisted later this year with contract award expected in 2022.

The contract will run from December 2022 to the end of 2045.

Firms have until 30 April to in the job.

The 拢275m contract to build the control centre, which is part of the 30ha maintenance depot at Washwood Heath, is currently out for tender.

A joint venture made up of Laing O鈥橰ourke and Murphy, alongside Nottingham-based specialist Total Reclaims Demolition, finished clearing the site last year.

Formerly known as the Washwood Heath Railway Works, the 110,000m2 site was last used by train maker Alstom in 2004.
