Planning permission has been granted for a new 拢20m pavilion to be built opposite the historic grade II-listed Shendish Manor Hotel in Hemel Hempstead.

Set in greenbelt land for Regency Homes, the design by Essex-based architects Tooley & Foster Partnership is said to respond to the fields and woodland setting on one side and the listed building on the other.

Tooley & Foster partner Khosro Bashi said: 鈥淭his new building does not seek to compete with the existing manorial-style hotel but responds by an equally strong contemporary design.

鈥淚t is set tight into the existing tree belt at the perimeter of the grounds and has been designed with an organic tree-like structure in front of a very sleek and simple clear-glazed curtain wall envelope that reveals the vibrancy of the spaces and the activity within.鈥�
