Engineer to help project manage construction of nuclear fusion reactor in southern France
A Halcrow-led consortium has won a contract to help project manage the construction of the experimental nuclear fusion reactor being built in Cadarache, southern France.
The engineer has teamed up with France鈥檚 Altran and Spain鈥檚 Idom to win a 拢23m contract to design checking services, co-ordinate interfaces, supervise 15-20 contracts and provide general project management.
The six year contract could be extended for five years.
The 拢8.5bn International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor is being funded by the EU, China, the US, Russia, India, Japan and Korea.
The consortium, called Energhia, will carry out the works for the EU body Fusion for Energy, which is responsible for ground works on the site and the construction of 39 buildings.
Halcrow鈥檚 Ralph Watts, regional director for power, Europe, said: 鈥淭he Energhia consortium was formed in 2008 with the specific objective of bringing together three world-class European engineering companies to help deliver the ITER project.鈥�
鈥淭he combined strengths of Halcrow, Altran and Idom deliver a strong nuclear engineering capability and expertise across the whole range of engineering and related disciplines.
