A flower-shaped house designed by Make Architects for former Manchester United footballer Gary Neville has passed its final planning hurdle.

The four-bedroom complex embedded in the Lancashire hills was granted planning consent after the secretary of state Eric Pickles decided not to call in the application.

The scheme will be built using traditional building methods and locally sourced materials.

Make partner Stuart Fraser said: 鈥淲e have designed a beautiful and functional family home that consumes less energy than it uses.

鈥淭he positioning and orientation of the property have been carefully thought about, a ground source heat pump will provide the heating and photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine will generate on-site renewable energy.鈥

Neville added: 鈥淚 am obviously delighted that the secretary of state has decided to allow Bolton council to issue its decision to grant planning permission. After sensibly allowing the dust to settle, my professional team will continue its detailed design work and I can then look forward to building this exciting home.鈥

Construction of the eco-home will start later this year.
