Atkins, Michael Laird Partnership, Turner & Townsend and Gardiner & Theobald all involved in scheme

Scotland鈥檚 largest college will develop a new super campus in Glasgow after 拢200m of funding was approved by the Scottish government.

Plans for the new buildings at the City of Glasgow College have been on the table since the city鈥檚 Nautical, Central and Metropolitan colleges merged last year.

Two facilities will now be built on existing college land in Glasgow city centre and on the banks of the River Clyde. The existing Clyde teaching block will be demolished and rebuilt.

The Riverside Campus should be completed by 2015, and the City Centre Campus by 2016. Construction is due to begin in summer 2013.

Turner and Townsend鈥檚 Edinburgh office will handle project management, with Gardiner & Theobald acting as QS out of its Glasgow office. The architects are Atkins and Scottish firm Michael Laird Partnership.

Scottish education secretary Mike Russell said: 鈥淭he Scottish government is consulting on wide-ranging plans to reform post-16 education, including encouraging greater collaboration and regional models of funding for colleges. Glasgow is ahead of the game and the new City of Glasgow College is providing benefits for staff, students and the local economy.
