The eight-storey building will contain a mixture of 80 one- and two-bedroom apartments, with retail space on the ground.

The contract is the first in the 拢200m RiversideOne regeneration of Middlesbrough鈥檚 Middlehaven docks, which the developer claims will be the UK鈥檚 largest zero carbon development.

Pete Halsall, BioRegional Quintain鈥檚 managing director, said: 鈥淲e are now in a position to make our vision of RiversideOne a reality.

"We can begin to create a new district that will ultimately provide the people of Middlesbrough with outstanding homes in a waterside location, a public events space, innovative leisure facilities and new commercial property.鈥

Work is starting on site immediately and the first phase will take 17 months.

Later phases will include a hotel, commercial space and 750 homes in total.
