Employers already running apprentice schemes can apply for extra funding to develop new models of training
The government has today allocated 拢10m of new funding for apprenticeships schemes over the next three years.
The funding will be provided to employers already running high-quality apprenticeship schemes, to spend on developing and testing models for the recruitment and training of apprentices.
The trials programme, which will be delivered through the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), will help the government meet its target of 400,000 apprentices in England by 2020 and contribute to filling skills gaps in UK industries.
David Way, national director of apprenticeships at the LSC, said: Given the current economic slowdown it is important that companies continue training their staff to maintain productivity and a competitive edge. Employing apprentices is an ideal way for businesses to position themselves as leaders for the recovery.
鈥淭he new funding will make it easier for businesses to do this and provide the opportunity for industry sectors to successfully fill their existing skills gaps.鈥
The new funding will be available to large firms and groups of smaller businesses with a good track record on delivering apprenticeship. Firms wishing to participate in the trials should contact the LSC.
