HSE says that Master Concrete did not give workers adequate training

Master Concrete has been fined 拢10,000 and ordered to pay 拢18,923 costs after a man was badly injured falling 4m through a roof.

Alfie Deville broke a collar bone and fractured six ribs while working on the roof of a steel-frame building he was dismantling.

The HSE said that Master Concrete had not planned the work properly or identified the hazards associated with taking the building down.

The court heard that the workers had no training or experience in this type of work. HSE Inspector Loraine Charles said: 鈥淚f the work had been properly planned and carried out by workers who were competent to do it, then this needless injury could have been avoided.鈥�

鈥淢aster Concrete Limited had a responsibility to ensure that there was a safe system of work in place for the dismantling of this structure, which it did not fulfil, and as a result Alfie Deville sustained a serious injury.鈥�
