Construction internet portal Asite has gained the backing of client body the Confederation of Construction Clients.

The confederation said it would work with Asite to encourage its members to use online collaboration tools on projects.

Confederation chief executive Zara Lamont claimed that clients' take-up of internet services would lead to improved margins for suppliers and lower prices for clients.

Lamont said: "If we are going to secure long-term improvements in our industry's performance, we must seek to standardise our processes.

"One way to do this is through the adoption of new technologies in the industry."

Asite's shareholders include Mace and British Land.
